USA – Consulting – Finance – MBA Intern – Summer 2027
Will you shape the future or will the future shape you?
The opportunity

At EY Consulting, we are building a better working world by transforming businesses through the power of people, technology, and innovation. Our clients are at the heart of what we do. We’re focused on solving the key issues of our client buyers, building deeper relationships, and generating lasting value with significant impact.

Our firm sets the standard for consulting services, fostering an environment that encourages career ownership at every stage. As a part of our Consulting team, you'll be at the forefront of this dynamic service line, driving change and delivering solutions that revolutionize business operations. You’ll help our clients in transformation and innovation efforts: growth, reducing costs, and managing risks proactively.

Your key responsibilities

Our objective is to provide clients with a unique business perspective on how to improve, evolve or transform the finance function, including reducing cost base, increasing efficiency and quality of information, and improving decision-making. As an intern on the Finance Consulting team, you’ll gain cross-industry experience working with senior leadership teams in domestic and large multi-national companies. You'll lead critical workstreams, monitor progress, manage risk, maximize operational efficiencies, and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. You'll navigate the nuances of each project, aligning objectives with client expectations and earning the trust of senior stakeholders through demonstrable progress and experience. You’ll lead finance transformation initiatives by applying process optimization techniques, data analysis and operating model design principles to deliver measurable business value and support strategic decision-making.

This role offers a platform to address complex problems, establish relationships with finance executives and future industry leaders, and immerse yourself in groundbreaking projects. We're interested in passionate leaders with a strong vision and a desire to stay on top of trends for their area and specific skills and knowledge to contribute to our clients and teams. If you have a genuine passion for helping businesses achieve their full potential, this role is for you.

Skills and attributes for success

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Currently pursuing an MBA with approximately 3+ years of relevant work experience in finance, consulting, or a related field.

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrate inclusivity, and embrace diverse perspectives.

  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to all audiences while leveraging relevant data to generate insights and innovative solutions.

  • Intellectual curiosity, the ability to take initiative and drive execution, and advanced analytical and problem-solving skills within a dynamic and evolving business landscape.

  • Possesses strong commercial awareness and a foundational understanding of how business operating models, organizational structures, and operational processes influence financial performance, strategic decision-making, and long-term business outcomes.

  • Approaches problems with a detail-oriented, structured mindset and a willingness to dive into unfamiliar business and finance topics.

  • Openness to feedback and a proactive approach to seeking guidance, learning new tools, and building consulting skills.

  • Exhibits an agile and growth-oriented mindset.

  • The expectation for this role is in person teaming, at client site or in an EY office, on average 3 days a week depending on the needs of the engagement, project, or practice area.

  • Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.

  • The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship, now and in the future.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Understanding of core finance processes including Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Record-to-Report (R2R), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), and Order-to-Cash (O2C) and business performance drivers.

  • Foundational understanding of financial statements (e.g., P&L), business performance drivers, and core finance processes gained through academic, consulting, or industry experience.

  • Exposure to finance, accounting, strategy, operations, or technology topics through MBA coursework, case competitions, club leadership, or academic projects.

  • Experience conducting research, structured analysis, or quantitative problem solving in academic or professional settings.

  • Knowledge of approaches to process improvement, financial planning and analysis, financial modeling or data analytics, cost optimization, budgeting or forecasting, or other approaches to help clients make better business decisions

  • Knowledge or experience in the following focus areas: finance transformation, performance management, shared service and outsourcing, financial systems optimization and/or enterprise process improvement

  • Proficient in utilizing Word, Excel and PowerPoint to develop, analyze, and present complex data and insights, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations and project timelines.

  • High-level understanding or exposure to digital, analytics, automation, AI, or enterprise technology initiatives.
