USA – Consulting – People Consulting – Actuarial – Associate Analyst

Will you shape the future or will the future shape you?

The opportunity

At EY Consulting, we are building a better working world by transforming businesses through the power of people, technology and innovation. Our clients are at the heart of what we do. We’re focused on solving the key issues of our client buyers, building deeper relationships and generating lasting value with significant impact.

Our firm sets the standard for consulting services, fostering an environment that encourages career ownership at every stage. As a part of our team, you'll be at the forefront of this dynamic service line, driving change and delivering solutions that revolutionize business operations. You’ll help our clients with transformation and innovation efforts: driving growth, reducing costs and managing risks proactively.

As an Associate Analyst, you will be based in one of our Service Delivery Centers. This centralized workforce is made up of high-performing, US-based employees who work closely with client serving professionals to deliver project-based support work to our clients. Our Service Delivery Center provides a broad range of integrated services to three main industries: commercial, financial institutions and government clients.

Your key responsibilities

You will have a real impact from your first day, applying actuarial and/or analytical skills to diverse employee benefits financial modeling, related to operational/vendor evaluation and compliance matters. You will spend your time working with core audit teams by helping them review company disclosures for defined benefit pension plans and assessing if they comply with accounting standards. You will also collect and analyze data, compute program calculations, monitor project timelines and document your findings.

You will process, compare and summarize census data and help to prepare complex actuarial valuations and related financial disclosures. You will review annual tax and financial disclosures in connection with required annual audits. You will assess financial and compliance risks in retirement and benefit plans. You will also prepare individual benefit calculations for pension programs. You may prepare annual employee benefit plan filings in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or Department of Labor (DOL) regulations.

As part of that, you will need to be a critical thinker who can take on complex projects and communicate technical knowledge simply and effectively to clients and team members.

Skills and attributes for success

To qualify for the role, you must:

  • Be pursuing an undergrad or master's degree with a concentration in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics (and pursuing Pension and/or Health).

  • Understand the actuarial exam and certification process and be making progress toward passing your actuarial exams (successful completion of one or more actuarial exams preferred) or have a commensurate level of continuing education for non-actuarial areas of focus.

  • Understand that the expectation for this role is in person teaming, at a client site or in an EY office, on average 3 days a week depending on the needs of the engagement, project or practice area.

  • Have access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.

  • Be able and willing to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.

  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship, now and in the future.

Ideally you:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

  • Are familiar with time value of money and interest calculations.

  • Have experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Are a purpose-driven and growth-oriented professional with a passion for learning, a collaborative mindset and a proven ability to innovate, adapt and leverage technology to drive meaningful change in dynamic business environments.

  • Have proven analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong academic foundation in business and/or technology and demonstrated ability to evaluate complex issues and develop effective solutions.
